Well, it's January 2, so I figure I'm at or nearly past the point where I should add an offering to my rather limited blog list.
This morning in Sunday School, my teacher asked what my New Year's resolution for 2011 would be. Like a dope, I responded "to exercise more". Yeah, right! I mean, that's what I'd LIKE to do - so I don't feel stiff in the mornings and when I've sat still for awhile and then get up and feel like I'm 80 - but what are the chances of my following through? You can guess the answer to that one!
I saw Denise Austin (terminally cheerful and upbeat - makes me want to smack her) on "Imus in the Morning" the other day. She's got to be in her late 40's but looks much younger - like I said above... I used to exercise to her videos back in the 90's and her constant "cheering" and "positive energy" just about drove me insane! I mean, can anybody really be THAT positive and upbeat and not be on serious drugs?? She has a new book called "A Dozen in a Dozen" or something like that, where you do 12 exercises in 12 minutes per day, along, of course, with eating right and doing cardiac exercises, etc., etc. I remember thinking "Hmmm...I could do that - I could carve out 12 minutes to do those exercises...." and I even briefly considered getting her book. I may yet - if I can find it cheap!! At least I could just read it and not have to listen to her!
Still, what it basically boils down to is self-control and moderation to get rid of the unwanted pounds. Traditionally, I've not been able to lose significant weight unless I pay Weight Watchers. Pitiful, but true. That's what I did several years ago and lost 22 pounds - I was downright skinny there for awhile! Unfortunately, I've put at least half, if not a little more, back on...huge bummer...do I pay again or try the self-control thing? Thank goodness the holidays are over and all the cookies, cakes, etc., that I baked are OUT of the house. Now the trick is to make sure they don't make their way back INTO the house!
Going back to school will help somewhat since I can't snack during the day and only have 30 minutes for lunch. There's also a great track out front that I'll try to hit as often as I can for about 30 minutes! The hard part is after supper - seems like no sooner am I finished then I start looking around for "safe" stuff to eat. Of course, I don't really want the "safe" stuff and end up eating "not so great, but really tasty" treats - telling myself that just one or two (cookies, chips, etc.) won't hurt...uh-huh...who am I fooling....
The point of this sermonette is that MODERATION is the key, as in most things! My response to the question today should have been "to be more moderate" as well as to exercise - that's the only way I can achieve my desired results. Thus endeth today's lesson!! Happy New Year!!
